CAF PARTICIPATES IN PERRY/SCHWARTZENEGGER
ROSE BOWL WAGER
Midland,
Texas (Jan. 23, 2006) - The Commemorative Air Force (CAF), headquartered in Midland, Texas, is supporting Gov. Rick Perry in his wager with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger over the outcome of the Rose Bowl championship football game Jan. 4, by donating tickets for AIRSHO 2006. The tickets will be given to Texas troops and their families.
"The CAF was contacted on Dec. 16, 2005, by David Teel with the Texas Travel Industry Association," said CAF Director of Public Relations Kay Crites, "who asked for a donation to be distributed to Texas troops and their families. As the premier, patriotic organization honoring all veterans, the CAF gladly donated 20 Sunday tickets to AIRSHO 2006, which is scheduled for Oct. 7-8, 2006." According to the list of official donors linked to the official press release at www.governor.state.tx.us, the CAF is the only travel destination in the Permian Basin to contribute.
Each governor is wagering a basket of goods produced in their states. As a celebration of the Rose Bowl, Perry also gathered more than 1,000 tickets and passes for tourist attractions across the state, and Texas Travel Industry Association members, including the CAF, provided 800 additional passes to Texas attractions. The tickets and passes will be distributed to military bases across the state, regardless of who wins the football game.
"I want to make sure that no matter who wins the game, we can show the men and women who are serving their country that we appreciate the heroism they show every day," Perry said in an official press release posted on the state's Web site. "I am pleased that we can help some of our troops and their families enjoy the sights and attractions of Texas in 2006. I applaud the businesses and organizations that have donated these items for these deserving Texans."
